Baraga Radio Network can be heard on any one of our six stations across the Northern part of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, as well as in the Eastern portion of the Upper Peninsula. Listeners can also hear us on our website: www.TheCatholicLight.com and through our smartphone apps for iPhone and Android. We also offer listening by phone call by calling: 712-832-8424
Below this map, you will find brief descriptions of each of our stations.
WTCK 90.9 FM – Charlevoix
This station was the one that began it all for the Baraga Broadcasting Radio Network in 2006. While our FCC broadcasting license is to the city of Charlevoix, our signal is sent out from a tower that is high atop a large hill in Harbor Springs, MI. This station continues to be our biggest coverage area and our strongest signal, reaching as far south as Leelanau County, and as far north as Gladstone.
WIDG 940 AM – St. Ignace
Baraga purchased this AM station and it continues to be the only tower that we own completely to ourselves. It is also a very strong signal, allowing residents of the Upper Peninsula to hear Catholic radio from the Mackinaw Bridge in St. Ignace north to Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario, and as far west as Newberry, MI. We are also very sure that we are catechizing quite a few deer, bears, and fish with this signal as well.
WTCY 88.3 FM – Traverse City
The next station added to our growing Network was FM 88.3 in 2011. Our FCC broadcasting license is to the village of Greilickville in Leelanau County. The tower that we share in Leelanau is owned by the County and is also home to the county’s 911 service and several cell phone companies. Due to 911 being located here, this facility is the best maintained of any of our tower sites. The county does a great job, even keeping the driveway fully plowed and accessible year round. While this signal is not as strong as some of our others, it does produce the highest number of listeners and donations, mostly due to the higher density of population in this area.
WGJU 91.3 FM – East Tawas
In 2012, the reach of Baraga Radio Network was greatly expanded through the addition of our next station FM 91.3 in Tawas. This station has a large coverage area that brought the sunrise East side of the state Catholic radio for the first time. Our FCC broadcast license is to the city of East Tawas, and was obtained through an educational grant associated with Holy Family School located there.
WGZR 88.9 FM – Alpena
Also joining our network family in late 2012 was FM 88.9 in Alpena. This signal is one of our smaller ones, but seems to do just fine serving the large Catholic community in Alpena. We are currently exploring possibilities to expand this signal to fill in more of the “gaps” in our coverage map surrounding this area. We will keep you posted as things develop.
WMQU 1230 AM – Grayling
Added in May 2016, WMQU broadcasts out of Grayling, filling the big “hole” that we once had between our east and west coast signals. Plans are also being made to improve this signal once we are able.
